Mercedes-Benz Trucks claims the majority of the trucks in Crossroads’ fleet, both equally enjoying a fruitful partnership.
Crossroads Africa was established in 1930 and operates in the general freight and niche transportation of fuel bulk liquid, gases, chemicals, and explosives as well as dedicated contract fleet services in South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana. They cannot remember a time when they did not operate Mercedes-Benz Trucks in their fleet, right from the days of the MB300s and Mercedes-Benz Powerliners. They currently have a fleet made up of mixed brands, however Mercedes-Benz Trucks makes up the largest share with over 100 Mercedes-Benz Trucks in their fleet. They recently bought an additional 10 Mercedes-Benz Actros 2652 units that they run in the Transkei and is extremely impress with particularly the truck’s fuel consumption. We checked in with them to understand what kept them loyal to our brand for all these years and what they see for the future of trucking in South Africa.
“We are really proud to run Mercedes-Benz Trucks in our fleet, we primarily have Mercedes- Benz Actros 2645 trucks that are on full maintenance contracts. The trucks are fantastic! We are really happy with the fuel consumption we achieve; the trucks are comfortable for our drivers, and they are reliable. Although we purchase all our new trucks at Orbit Commercial Vehicles Cape Town, we are extremely happy with service that the entire Daimler Truck Southern Africa dealer network affords us.” Bennie Thiart, Maintenance Manager at Crossroads.
Crossroads have their head quarter in Johannesburg and their own Daimler Truck Southern Africa accredited workshops in Johannesburg, Cape Town, East London, and Port Elizabeth with an amazing and longstanding relationship with Orbit Commercial Vehicles Cape Town, who plays a vital role in keeping their trucks on the road. According to Bennie, the service they receive from Mercedes-Benz Trucks, especially on the technical side is fantastic, in addition the turnaround times on services and parts availability are good. Bennie elaborates that they only purchase genuine Mercedes-Benz Truck Parts for all major components with great service received from the dealer. No matter the problem, the team will sort it out and provide solutions.
Having been in the trucking industry for over 90 years, we asked how they see the future for trucking in South Africa? “The future is Mercedes-Benz Trucks for sure. Although electric trucks are a big topic now, I personally think that the technology will do really well in first world markets but not necessarily in Southern Africa. To successfully use electric trucks the infrastructure must be in place, and this will take a long time to set up in other parts of Africa. Diesel trucks will be operated here for generations to come and for us it will remain Mercedes- Benz Trucks all the way”. Bennie Thiart.
Congratulations to Crossroads with your recent truck purchase. Mercedes-Benz Trucks would like to thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to the journey ahead with you, for many more years to come.
